I hope that you all are doing well and staying warm. It pains me to share that we have lost another member of our beloved JPFOB family. Kenneth Cope passed away on Tuesday, January 23rd. Kenneth was the long time guitarist and vocalist with the Cope Brothers. The funeral service will be Sunday, January 28th at 2:00pm at the Keeling and Goodman Funeral Home in Paducah, KY. We have planned to take up a collection for the family at our March Bluegrass Night to help out with the funeral expenses. Carrol Wayne Cope tells me that the Cope Brothers plan to be there to sing a couple of songs at the March Bluegrass night to honor and pay tribute to Kenneth. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
By now I trust that most of you have heard about the tragic school shooting at Marshall County High School on the morning of January 23rd. Two students were killed and many others were injured. We have decided that our February 2nd Bluegrass Night will be a benefit show where all proceeds will go to support the victims and their families. We are still working on the schedule of performers, but have already confirmed performances by Josh Williams, Michael Castleberry, and The McKendrees. This will be a little different than our regular First Friday show where we have just two bands perform. We hope to add more performers, so keep an eye on the Facebook page for an updated list of performers.
Special thanks to Cotton Ridge and String Tyme for playing our January Bluegrass Night. I was not able to be there, but I hear both bands put on great shows. Thanks to Ron Barnett for filling in with the emcee work and to Ruth Greenfield for handling things in mine and Carolyn’s absence.
I hope you will join us at the KY Opry on Friday, February 2nd!
Jason McKendree, JPFOB President
